Duke's Day: Connecting land to sea
The surfing breaks, beautiful beaches and clean water would not be maintained without the strong environmental action groups that have been in operation throughout this region for many years. Many surfers, divers and swimmers take part in regular clean ups and research projects along this stretch of coast.  Tonight, Duke’s Day partners with Surfers for Climate & Surfrider to spread the word, to inspire ocean protection.

Discover the inspiring story of Belinda Baggs, a lifelong waterwoman who pioneered a place for femininity in the lineup through her graceful longboard style. Her story is one of passion and purpose, evolving from a life dedicated to riding waves to one focused on safeguarding our oceans. Guided by the currents of her life, from competitive surfing to environmental advocacy, she shares insights into solutions and the change that is created when coastal communities come together.

​SOUTHERN BLAST 
Southern Blast is a beautiful cinematic celebration of the wild landscapes, abundant marine ecosystems, and local communities that call the Southern Ocean coastlines home.
Featuring footage shot on location in lutruwita (Tasmania), the film connects with local personalities–from surfers to crayfishers, sustainable ocean businesses, and Traditional Custodians–it covers the unique and diverse communities that coexist alongside marine life and wild natural landscapes. Southern Blast is a powerful look into the relatively untouched charm of lutruwita and the threat posed by a looming fossil fuel industry.

 It wouldn't be a Surfrider film without some magical waveriding moments, featuring sessions with Torren Martyn, Annie Ford, Kyron Rathbone, Zoey Grey and other ocean-loving characters.
Engaging as it is beautiful, Southern Blast has captured the wildness of the Southern Ocean and those who share a deep and integral connection with it. Hear from Sarah about success at Spot A Shark who are harnessing community support and using innovative technology to identify and monitor grey nurse sharks to aid in the conservation of this important but threatened species.

Hear from Rob about the incredible work undertaken by the team of Gamay Rangers based in La Perouse, undertaking natural and cultural resource management, and informing science with traditional knowledge.
