DUKE'S FRESHWATER Statue

The Duke Paoa Kahanamoku Statue and Commemorative Park was officially unveiled and opened by Duke's widow Mrs Nadine Kahanamoku on Wednesday 26 January 1994.
Dukes surfing demonstrations on Freshwater Beach in the summer of 1914/1915, ignited Australia's passions for the sport, and popularised surfing across the country. Australia's first World Surfing Champion was Midget Farrelly in 1964, with many more champions following. The park features mosaics of Australia's short and long board champions along the surfers walk of fame.
The park is open to the public and free to access.
